What is a Birth Doula?

A doula is a trained birth companion - not a medical professional, but someone who supports you emotionally, physically and practically through pregnancy, birth and the early postpartum.

What that looks like with me is a little different - less about information and techniques, more about helping you trust yourself so that by the time your baby arrives, you already feel ready.

Why do I need a Doula and a midwife?

Most midwives are focused on managing the medical side of your birth - monitoring, assessments, clinical decisions. That's their job and it matters.

But who is protecting your space? Your peace? Your experience?

That's where I come in. I'm not there to replace your midwife - I'm there for the parts of birth that fall outside her remit. The emotional steadiness, the familiar presence, the person who already knows you when you walk through that door.

When should I hire a Birth Doula?

As early as possible - ideally in the first or second trimester. Not because there's lots to prepare, but because the relationship matters. By the time labour begins, I want to already know you.

What types of births do you support?

All of them. Home births, hospital births, birth centre births, medicated births, unmedicated births, caesareans. My role doesn't change based on where or how you birth - it's always to support you, protect your space and make sure you feel genuinely looked after.

How far will you travel to attend my birth?

I'm based on the South Coast and cover Hampshire, West Sussex and surrounding areas within roughly an hour's drive. If you're further afield, online birth preparation support is available wherever you are.

What is the cost of hiring a Birth Doula?

Birth Doula Support — sliding scale £800 to £1,200 Postnatal Doula Support — £34/hour, with blocks of 12 or 20 hours available Birth + Postnatal combined — £1,500 Birth Preparation — from £85
