Protecting Birth

A workshop with Liliana Lammers exploring the foundations of physiological birth

This one-day immersion workshop to bring together doulas, midwives, students and all birth workers who support women during pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period.

Together with Liliana Lammers we will explore birth as an involuntary, neurophysiological process and reflect on how our presence, language, environment and actions influence labour. We will look at the basic needs of women in labour and what it truly means to protect the internal and external conditions that allow instinctive birth to unfold.

You can expect a combination of teaching, shared discussion and open Q&A. There will be time to ask honest questions, reflect on real experiences from practice, and consider how we can better understand one another’s roles in supporting women.

The day also includes nourishing food, informal connection time and space to continue conversations beyond the teaching - creating not only learning, but meaningful professional relationships.

About Liliana Lammers

Liliana Lammers is a doula with 27 years of experience, supporting hundreds of women through pregnancy, labour and birth. Her work is rooted in meeting the basic needs of women in labour and creating conditions that allow birth to unfold naturally and instinctively.

Liliana worked closely alongside Michel Odent - the French obstetrician who pioneered birthing pools, home-like birth environments and physiology-centred understanding of birth that has influenced maternity care around the world. For decades, Odent encouraged birth workers, midwives and doulas to think differently - to trust nature, observe rather than intervene and protect the conditions that support instinctive birth. His work has been shared globally through books, talks, workshops and collaborations.

Liliana and Michel worked and taught together - bringing together clinical insight and doula practice in a way that highlights the importance of protecting physiology in every birth.

Liliana's teaching focuses on understanding how birth works as an involuntary, neurophysiological process, and on exploring how birth workers - both doulas and midwives - can support it without interfering. Her approach emphasises respect, presence and deep trust in the wisdom of the body, making her workshops a unique opportunity for birth workers to learn, reflect and connect.
